Nami Island....

This past Monday our family and some friends of ours, the Sanders,  took a day trip to Nami Island.  Nami Island is a small, half-mooned shaped island located in Chuncheon ( about an hour and a half away from Seoul).  It was named after General Nami who died at the age of 28 after being falsely accused of treason ( thanks Wikipedia).

Our view of some of the towns we drove through on the way there.......

Welcome to Nami Island!!  When you first arrive you have to go to the ticket booth and get a "Visa", which was about 8,000 won.  Once we got those we entered immigration ( pretend, of course) and headed toward the ferry.  The ferry ride was about 5 minutes and it took us to the island.

We made it :).  Here are some of the first things we saw.

Nami Island is also famous because one of the popular Korean drama's, "Winter Sonata" is filmed there.  It is the main reason couples come and visit.  You will see in the pictures below they even have a statue of the main couple in the drama.  These romantic trees are also famous because of the drama.  This was one of my favorite parts of the island, they really were beautiful and so tall!  A lot of the leaves had fallen off...I bet a couple of weeks ago they would have been amazing to look at!

I loved how they walked together....so sweet!

Josh was trying to get the kids to smell the trees....they were cedar!

More pics of the scenery....

There were also wild animals that roamed around, including this crazy looking squirrel.  It looked like a cross between a rabbit and squirrel.

In the middle of the island was a playground area, places to eat, bike rentals, and some exhibits of Korean traditional lifestyles....

Another favorite of the day....sky bike rail! The kids thought this was great.  They got to pedal around the entire track.

After the sky bike rail we decided to head back to the ferry.  On the way there we saw a couple having their wedding pictures made.  I know she had to be freezing...it was SO cold that day!

Don't you just love the trees!

Here's some monuments dedicated to the show "Winter Sonata", including the famous couple :)

BE WARNED THIS NEXT PICTURE MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR KIDS....seriously, we didn't know what to think!  As we continued our walk toward the ferry we just happened upon this....what's a parent to do..can't hide it.  It's too big!  So we just laughed it off and kept on walking.  For those who want to know, it's suppose to be a statue of a mother breastfeeding her two kids.....enough said.

Back to the beautiful scenery...

Poor Caleb was worn out!

We really had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this to be added to anyone's bucket list for Korea.  It was such an easy drive from Seoul and overall, a very relaxing day!!

Until Next Time,
Michelle :)
