Flower Market at the Express Bus Terminal...

I'm learning when someone says they want to take you to a market here in Korea, be ready for sensory overload!!  Seriously, these people do not joke around when it comes to shopping, wether it's fish, flowers, socks, purses, shoes, furniture, etc.  Whatever the specialty they will have TONS of it!!

A couple of weeks ago some friends invited me to go to the flower market with them.  It is located within one of the bus terminals here in Seoul.  I was not prepared for what I was about to walk into.  There were flowers everywhere!!  One side of the market was full of all kinds of fresh flowers....some I've never even seen before.  On the other side you had fake flowers and all kinds of decorations!  I truly LOVED this place and can't wait to go back again.  I already have my list of things I would like to get :)

Entering the fresh flower section....

Some of the beautiful flowers we saw :)

Now for the fake stuff and LOTS of it....

Loving these baskets :)

Our little boys want an airplane themed room, hoping these are still there when I go back!  They would be perfect!

Chuseok: Korean Thanksgiving

On September 30th, one of the most important holiday's in Korea will be celebrated, Chuseok.  Chuseok is when Korean families gather together to give thanks to their ancestors for their abundant harvest. It lasts for three days and is held around the Autumn Equinox.

This week some of the classes at the kids school held their own Chuseok celebration during their lunch periods.  Caleb's class was one of them! ( Rachel's class will celebrate tomorrow).

At the celebration, they served traditional Korean food ( bulgogi, fried rice, sushi, dumplings, etc), vegetables, fruit, and peanut butter sandwiches for those who didn't like Korean food.....sadly Caleb was one of those :(.  I tried and tried to get him to taste it, but he wouldn't.

Getting the food ready for the celebration...

Caleb getting ready to eat. He was so excited to have myself and Michael there with him.

Caleb's table with their teacher, Mr. Hayden....

Some of the children in Caleb's class wore traditional Korean clothing called Hanbok's...can't wait to get our kids one!

I'm so thankful that our kids get to have experiences like this....what stories they will be able to tell when they are older!

Until Next Time,
Michelle :)

Air Force Ball...

Last night we had the pleasure of attending the Air Force Ball as they celebrated their 65th anniversary!  It has been a while since we have been to a military ball ( Ethan & Rachel were babies!), so Josh & I were really looking forward to the event.  It was held at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul.

I really wish I would have taken my Canon camera with me, but I didn't know if I would look out of place with it or not.  Should have taken it...there were several ladies that had theirs.  Most of the pictures below were taken with my iphone, but thankfully my sweet friend Jennifer, took her nice camera and shared some of her pictures with me.

One picture I wish I had taken was at the entrance of the hotel.  If I knew it was going to be like it was I would have.  As we arrived, we walked into the lobby of the hotel.  There they had a red carpet lined with people who worked at the hotel and they were all clapping and bowing to us as we walked down the carpet welcoming us to the event, all while a Korean band was playing music for us.  Honestly I felt like a celebrity...lol.

Before the Ball began, there was a cocktail hour.  This was a time to mingle with other guest, enjoy some appetizers & drinks.  While we were waiting some local university students played for us.

LOVED this ice sculpture!

Here we are entering the ballroom.  We had a table right up front and to the side!

This part of the program was very touching....they are paying tribute to the POW/MIA.

This was a HUGE cake!

Our meal consisted of 5 courses...... First up was our appetizer:  Alaskan King Crab Timbale with Avacado & Tomato.  Yes, it was delicious!

Next came our salad:  Lemon-Scented Lobster, Scallop, Shrimp on Smoked Salmon, Mousseline, Horseradish Cream, and Baby Leaves.  This too was delicious, even though I didn't care for the cream sauce !

Our third course was the soup:  Sweet Corn Chowder.  This by far was the best part of the meal for me.  It tasted just like it was home cooked!  YUMMY!

Our main entree' consisted of Stuffed Chicken Breast with Brie Cheese, Perigourdine Sauce, Polenta Cake, and Garden Vegetables.

By this time, I was about stuffed!!!  Our last course was dessert:  Green Tea Tiramisu, Blueberry Ice Cream & Fresh Fruit ( I cut of the raspberry that was with it..lol).  The ice cream was the size of a small mellon scoop, but the taste was strong and delicious!!

Josh and I always say that the Air Force ( military in general) is a small world.  Here is a fine example.  Josh and I were the only couple seated at our table.  The rest of the people consisted of singles and unaccompanied Airmen.  When we sat down Josh kept looking at the guy across the table and he said "I know that guy from somewhere".  Several minutes later he figured it out.  Josh had went to college with him and they both were in the ROTC program at the University of TN!  They even know some of the same people from Tennessee.  Now crazy is that!!  They hit it off really well and talked the entire night!

We also had some entertainment during the evening.  I didn't have a good view where I was sitting so I took pictures of the screen :).  First we had some entertainment from the Air Force Band.

Then there was the Korean Hip Hop Dancers....

Finally, we had some K-Pop....Violet, an instrumental Girl Group.  These girls were serious about their music.  I tried to upload a small clip I had of them playing, but couldn't get it to upload.  I'll try to post it on my Facebook wall, that seems to work better.

Our keynote speaker of the night was Gen. Thurman, Commander, UNC/CFC/USFK

We really had a great night and enjoyed spending some time with some wonderful people!!  Can't wait until next year!

Until Next Time,
Michelle :)

Air Force Picnic...

Yesterday, we attended our first Air Force function here at Yongsan ( we are stationed at an army post)  The USO sponsored an Air Force picnic and it was a lot of fun!

The kids favorite part.....bouncy houses!

Rachel & C went crazy over Sushi (cute name, huh!)...look at her painted feet and tail!

Ethan, of course, played football with some of his friends...

The 7th Air Force commander came to thank everyone for their hard work

 More pics from the day....

Next up is the Air Force Ball tonight!!!  Looking forward to having more fun with some great people!!

Until Next Time,
